There is no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to powder hunting, but your best bet on the North American continent is none other than Northern Washington’s Mt. Baker. Baker gets at least 100″-200″ each month during the Winter, and the days with fresh snow outnumber the days without it.
Mount Baker is a medium sized ski area with 1,500 vertical feet of skiing on 1,000 acres with 8 chair lifts. Baker has varying terrain and is known for it’s off-piste steep powder runs.
About an hour and a half East of Bellingham Washington, nestled in the Northern Cascade Range near the Canadian border stands the 10,781 foot tall Mt. Baker. The 1998-99 season saw Mt. Baker set the World Record for most snowfall in one season with a whopping 1,140 inches between November and April, and the Mt. Baker Ski Area averages 659 inches annually on a 15 year average. During the 2016-17 ski season Mt. Baker Ski Area had a whopping 68 powder days (5″ plus).
Snowy Winter storms
When the storm door opens in Western Washington’s Cascade Range, it usually doesn’t close until the waning days of Spring. In the shadow of the mighty Mount Rainier, Mt. Baker Ski Area benefits from the most annual snowfall of any ski area in the entire world with an average of 659″ each season and an unrivaled world record for snowfall in a single season with 1,140″ back in the 1998-99 season.
Lift TIckets
No mega resort price gouging here. Mt. Baker has throw back ticket prices that offer tons of value for the money. Lift ticket cost: Adult $56-$61, Child $28-$30. Mt. Baker has no known season pass reciprocation and is not part of any season pass alliances.
Transportation
Bring your snow tires and 4WD, because one thing is for certain, the road up will be snowy! Mt. Baker ski area sits about 19 miles East of the town of Glacier, Washington up a winding ski road. Parking is free but snow tires or chains are a must! Also the “Baker Bus” offers affordable shuttle transportation from the City of Bellingham and several towns in between.
Amenities
Mt. Baker has two separate base areas and offers a full range of rental facilities, ski and snowboard schools and has food and drink options in the form of a café, plus restaurant/bar. A ski shuttle runs daily from Bellingham & Glacier. No lodging exists slopeside, and the closest housing options are 19 miles away in Glacier.

Annual Snowfall
Mount Baker benefits from an average of 659″ of snowfall annually, and the powder days just keep on piling up until they close their doors in April.
Vertical Drop
Mount Baker’s base altitude is 3,500ft and has a lift served summit of 5,000ft for 1,500 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding.
Season length
A normal season at Mt. Baker runs seven days a week from early December through mid-April for skiing and snowboarding.
AMenities
8 quad chairlifts and 2 rope tows service 1,000 skiable acres spread out over two distinct base areas. Mt. Baker has full rental facilities, as well as bars and restaurants on the slopes.
